A Review of Communication Technologies in Mud Pulse Telemetry Systems

Mastering real-time and accurate downhole information is crucial for ensuring drilling safety, improving efficiency, maximizing economic benefits. In recent years, logging while (LWD) technologies, represented by mud pulse telemetry (MPT), achieved significant success. However, they still face challenges such as a large amount of conflicting with low transmission rates, severe channel distortion, strong noise interference, weak surface receiving signals. Therefore, this review collects updates the papers, patents, conference articles in relevant field over past ten years. Starting from basic structure communication systems, signal coding modulation technologies MPT system are discussed. The attenuation reflection brought various interferences described. cancellation, equalization, synchronization, decoding studied detail. By analyzing theoretical principles, development breakthroughs, that can improve LWD aims to assist researchers obtaining latest references strategies.
